Jewels of the Earth – A desert rose is not a flower; it’s a naturally occurring mineral formation that looks like a rose blossom. It forms when gypsum or barite crystals grow in arid, sandy conditions. The “petals” are actually flattened crystals intergrown with sand.
• White desert roses have a delicate, almost porcelain look. Unlike the more common sand-coloured desert roses, the white ones are purer in colour and often free of iron oxide staining.
