Museum Collection – The Pietà is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture (1499) by Michelangelo, depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus. Housed in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome, it was commissioned by French Cardinal Jean de Billheres. Notably, Mary is depicted as surprisingly young, reflecting Michelangelo’s unique artistic vision.
