Jewels of the Earth This type of desert rose is composed of baryte (barite) crystals, a denser, harder mineral than gypsum. Unlike gypsum roses, baryte roses are more durable and often used in industrial applications such as drilling fluids and as a weighting agent in paints. They typically appear in red, brown, or yellow shades and feature rounded crystal edges, giving them a distinct look compared to the more delicate gypsum.
